Message from the Rabbi, Marc S. Jagolinzer

Welcome to this web site.  We hope it will serve as an introduction to Temple Shalom.  Its purpose is to inform you about our congregation and to invite you to become part of our Temple Shalom family. Although it is impossible to fully characterize the nature of our congregation within these limited confines, a proper description of our Temple must include some of the tenets upon which it was founded.  In doing this, I hope to give you some insight into the wonderful opportunities we can offer you.

We are an independent Conservative Congregation. We are proud of our association with an approach to Judaism, which takes both tradition and the modern world seriously. We strive to combine tradition and change to protect and enhance meaningful patterns of observance, rituals, values and ethics. Our practice of Judaism is durable, relevant, intellectually and spiritually satisfying and enjoyable. Our religious, educational and social programs have particular emphasis on the Sabbath, Jewish holidays and observance of Life Cycle Events, Dietary Laws and much more.

We take special pride in our Temple program. As you read this you will find an impressive variety of offerings.

We know that there are certain basics which all people want from their Temple. We also recognize that needs are nearly as numerous as the membership. We are constantly working to be responsive to the broad range of interest and age groups. Shalom is closely related to the Hebrew word “Shalem” which means complete. We are truly complete in what we offer to our members.

A strong characteristic of Temple Shalom is its warmth and friendliness. I always think of and refer to our congregation as a family and our building as a place people can call home. Once again, the word Shalom also means “Welcome” and the atmosphere here radiates a feeling of community in which people can find lasting and fulfilling friendships. We welcome entire families, including young children, to our services and holiday celebrations. We provide a warm, nurturing environment for children and include them as an integral part of our community.

We pray, study and celebrate together. We help each other in times of need. We care about perpetuating the rich heritage of Judaism in our lives and the lives of our children. Most of all, we care about each other.
